Talk to mum on Mothers Day

Everything Mum
How did you find the energy, Mum, To do all the things you did, To be a teacher, nurse and counsellor To me, when I was a kid.
How did you do it all, Mum, Be a chauffeur, cook and friend, Yet find time to be a playmate, I just can't comprehend.
I see now it was love, Mum, That made you come whenever I'd call, Your inexhaustible love, Mum, And I thank you for it all.

Every year, Mothering Sunday rolls around and families all over the country gather to give thanks to their mothers, grandmothers and female caregivers. Many households give lucky old mum a well- deserved rest, rallying around to cover the chores that generally fall to her. As a nation, we unite in appreciation of the important women in our lives. However, on this special day, we must also think of the many families who aren’t lucky enough to still have a mothers’ presence grace their dining table.

Conversations with our mothers are so important, not just for the day to day “hi mum, how’s it going” conversations, but also the deeper harder conversations which nobody wants to address. Conversations about our health and the dreaded C word.

Did you know that ovarian cancer is responsible for 4,227 deaths in the UK and breast cancer has sadly claimed 11,563 lives in 2016. How does talking to our mothers about these harder topics help women everywhere? Well...

The risk of breast cancer is roughly twice as high for a woman who has an immediate relative who has had the disease. Ovarian cancer risk is around 2.7- 3.5 times higher in women who have a mother or sister who has or had it.

Whilst talking to your mother about your family health history may not seem like the most appealing topic, it is one of the most important conversations you could have; knowledge is power.

We are unified in our support for those whose lives have been torn apart by this terrible disease. We stand together with hope for better treatment, less pain and ultimately; a cure. Research and information continue to push for these goals, with our help. Not just on Mother’s Day, but every day.

At Elements Boutique Spa, we are also doing our bit to give relief to those who need it most and we are proud to offer Made For Life treatments. All of the Made For Life treatments offer relief for those living with cancer, those in recovery and those who have recently been diagnosed. We hope that these holistic treatments help our clients to briefly disconnect from their lives and reconnect with nature and stillness to give a moment of peace and quiet.
